
Magento makes use of the InnoDB engine for MySQL. From a developer standpoint, this is very important since InnoDB implements locking on the row level. Most Magento stores have a high transaction rate, so InnoDB’s row-locking allows only the row being modified to lock, leaving the rest of the table open to modification if needed. While this allows many simultaneous users to perform transactions at the same time, it can cause significant I/O delays which can result in poor site performance. Fortunately, the InnoDB engine can be tuned to match specific database requirements and deliver much better performance.

Two of Simple Helix’s nameservers ran out of disk space last night and began over-writing the DNS configuration file. This issue was resolved immediately by re-synchronizing the servers. However, the re-synchronization caused both servers to run out of memory this morning, resulting in further issues. Both memory and disk space have been upgraded on all our nameservers to resolve this and prevent it from happening again in the future.

A reboot of all shared hosting servers has been scheduled for Friday morning, February 15, 2013 between the hours of 12:00AM and 4:00AM EST. The reboot is necessary to apply a security update to the server. The reboot will cause approximately 5-30 minutes of intermittent connectivity for your site.

Beginning at 12:01 AM EST on Thursday, February 7, and ending at 1:00 AM EST on Thursday, February 7, we will be performing an emergency maintenance. This maintenance will require a full reboot to implement software upgrades.
We anticipate each individual reboot to last no longer than 15 minutes. If you plan on making any changes to your website during this maintenance period, you may want to reschedule for these changes to be implemented at a different time.
Administrators will be standing by during the reboot to make sure everything comes back online. No serious system changes will occur.
